I’ve got a license, now what?
Last week I shared some resources for building your very own VHF/UHF antennas. This week is really easy for me since I told you that I’d post about “mobile radio resources”, and I will do that.
I’m not kidding when I tell you that truly EVERYTHING you need to know about installing and operating mobile HF and VHF systems can be found at the link below. If you read something elsewhere which disagrees with what Alan has posted, then “they are wrong”.
Alan is good, Alan is wise.
Really. It’s all there.
Next week: Using your VHF/UHF radio to talk over the horizon!
Tower Work To Complete THIS Thursday – Hopefully
Once again, absent delays due to weather, schedules, Godzilla, comet strike, or some other pestilence, the tower work should be completed Thursday, October 29th. But I’ve said that before, or something like it, so in many ways this project is just like how Yogi referred to baseball: “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”
I’ll post here, by email, on the SCARS Twitter feed, and Facebook groups, the anticipated schedule, when the systems go down, and when they are back up.

Pictures from last weekend’s JOTA
N5HZR took some pictures on Saturday the 17th during the JOTA event at Reaves Park. Lots of Scouts got exposed to some RF! “Click” to make bigger!
And when you get your HF antenna up, here is a consistently updated and comprehensive listing of HF Nets: http://www.n1yz.com/HFNET_LIST.HTM
N5MAF Estate Sale
At this month’s SCARS meeting, Jim, W5JLK, let us know that Earl’s wife had asked him to take care of liquidating Earl’s “stuff”. Jim is a long-time friend of the family, and while he has retired from the auctioneering business, he is doing this for Earl’s spouse. He remarked that to be charitable, “Earl was a collector”. Oh, yeah…
It took 4 people helping Jim an entire day just to get Earl’s stuff out of the attic and into the yard. A LARGE storage building has just had a path cut through it.
Long story short, this will be a “tagged” sale (Jim says it would take him 3 entire days to auction it off) will be Friday/Saturday, October 30/31. Please do not go by and bother Earl’s widow about this. Suffice it to say there is a LOT OF STUFF.
Here is a link to the Craigslist posting for this sale (ignore the map – it’s wrong on purpose):
If you want the address/directions of where the sale is, contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will not post this info in the NL.
Did I Forget You Last Week?
There’s an easy way to make sure that you receive each and every blog post. Yes, even on those days when I forget to send an email out to the Club list! But remember that I ONLY send out an email notification for the Weekly Newsletters. The other non-Weekly posts are very rarely notified about via email.
From anywhere on the Blog, scroll down until you see “Follow Blog via Email” in the right side-bar. Sign-up there, and you will always receive an email notice each and every time I post something here. Big Solar Flare? Bingo – you’re on it.

Ham Nation was REALLY good this last week, so I thought I’d link to it.
Highlights: Bob and Gordo at Pacificon 2015, Bob demos the new Comet CAA 500 Analyzer, Beverage antennas and more!
These folks are ALWAYS entertaining and informative, not to mention that their theme music is by Joe Walsh! Yes – THAT Joe Walsh, the famous Amateur Radio Operator, who also plays in some little known Rock band. 🙂
