November Club Meeting Aftermath
Elections were held at the SCARS Monthly meeting Saturday. As per SCARS By-Laws, President-Elect W5IFN becomes President on January 1st. The Secretary – KE5JZN and Treasurer – WX5DF were re-elected by unanimous consent, and N5UWY, Trustee with WB5ULK, Assistant Trustee being re-appointed. WG5T asked to be replaced as Member-at-Large on the Executive Board, and the President-Elect asked KD5UGO to step in as Member-at-Large – Phil consented.
Then we had “elections”.
The floor was opened for nominations for President-Elect. Current P-Elect, Harold nominated KF5UZA – Rodney. This was universally greeted with approval. Well, everyone but Rodney! 😀 Regardless, Rodney acceded to be put on the ballot, and since no one else was nominated, the train whistle sounded, and Rodney was elected by acclamation! And finally W5GXT, Victor, was appointed as CORA representative to fill the slot vacated by P-Elect Rodney.
In other reports of interest, we had at least 38 folks in attendance (there were people still drifting in at 10am), we learned that CORA will sign a contract with the Biltmore Hotel (I-40 and Meridian) for one year with the plans of moving to The Tower Hotel (formerly Marriott) on Northwest Expressway for 2017.
President Phil had a show-and-tell using the removed tower lights and some of the left-over heliax, and N5HZR had a very brief talk about DMR/DMR Repeaters. There will be a UHF DMR repeater in Norman “Real Soon Now”. Look for that announcement here!
The SCARS Christmas Party will be the Monday before the next SCARS Meeting, December 7, from 6:00 to 8:30 in the Big Room at Golden Corral in Norman with a NTE $10 Gift Exchange. Men bring a gift for Men and Women bring gift for Women (marked please).
The December SCARS Meeting will highlight a Drone demonstration. But since we can’t fly one outside on airport property, it’s going to be flown in the Training Room! You gotta be there for that!
C&E Archival Project
N5HZR and myself are working on creating PDF versions of the CORA Publication “Collector and Emitter” – C&E for short. Originally, this was published as the house Newsletter of the Aeronautical Center Amateur radio club (W5PAA), but starting in February, 1975, the C&E was published for the entire Central Oklahoma amateur community. The C&E is a great historical reference for Amateur Radio in Central Oklahoma starting in the mid 70s and just a wealth of insight into the people and events over almost 3 decades. During much of this period, two Norman amateurs were regularly highlighted – N5MS, Michael, with technical articles, and KU5B, Jack, with the exploits of the World’s Greatest DXer – A5A.
I was able to retrieve a large number of issues by way of AE5MH several years ago including contributions from K2GKK and KA5BJS (Mac and Judy and copies from the various C&E Editors through the years. I also received quite a few copies from N5KUK, KA5RUZ, and others along the way. The really early editions came from an FAA club member (I do not have his call in my memory banks just now – sorry) which have been extremely invaluable for this project.
Mark will be converting these into PDFs as his time permits, and over time I’ll make these available as links from within the Newsletter.
We are missing a few months along the way. If you have any of these which you’d loan to us so that we could include these in the archives, it would be greatly appreciated. We are missing at least 5 issues (maybe more – see below).
These are what we know are missing:
1986 – missing July
1993 – missing June
1998 – missing April
1999 – missing April
2002 – January, and perhaps, more (keep reading)
For 2002, we do have February, but are looking for January and anything March and beyond. Note that I did not actually read the February 2002 edition to see if that was the Last Issue or not, but if you’ve got January, or anything March and beyond, we’d love to borrow that from you for a bit.
In any case, if you can help with these, we’d appreciate it a bunch! Let me know by emailing me at email@example.com.

Remember that N5HZR has an SDR receiver running on a Raspberry Pi that monitors 88 and 06. You can listen to it here:

Did I Forget You Last Week?
There’s an easy way to make sure that you receive each and every blog post. Yes, even on those days when I forget to send an email out to the Club list! But remember that I ONLY send out an email notification for the Weekly Newsletters. The other non-Weekly posts are very rarely notified about via email.
From anywhere on the Blog, scroll down until you see “Follow Blog via Email” in the right side-bar. Sign-up there, and you will always receive an email notice each and every time I post something here. Big Solar Flare? Bingo – you’re on it.
