July Meeting Aftermath
I was very busy getting ready for the BIG AUCTION at the meeting, so was very distracted. I know we had a roomful of people and equipment, there were at least two items sold from member to member before the meeting even began. President In Charge Of Vice, Rodney, was in the Chair since the Prez was off galavanting around somewhere, and the meeting itself quickly got down to the Program which was done by KD5UGO, K5VL, and KG5REX. A demo and discussion of the history of, and current requirements for climbing gear. Victor and Rex donned their respective gear and what, when, how, and why of the equipment was discussed. A great presentation! This was followed by the Silent Auction of the equipment donated to the Club by W7CNK – and was a great success. We’ll talk about that at the next Club meeting, but the small remnants of the auction will be offered for sale at Ham Holiday and the leftovers will be advertised on eBay. Thanks to all who made the auction a great success!

Collector & Emitter
As a reminder for those at the June SCARS meeting and a link for those who were not, here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.
When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…
2 Big Amateur Radio Buying “Opportunities”
Leftovers of the W7CNK equipment will be for sale at Ham Holiday, and afterwards on eBay.
And lastly, Ham Holiday always presents a good opportunity to “acquire” new and used Amateur equipment,
as well as other “items” of value only to those selling and buying.
If you’ve never been to a “Ham” flea market, you’ve not lived – really.
Ham Holiday is Next Friday and Saturday. Everything you need to know can be found right here:
Request For Help
David, KG0FHF, a new SCARS Member, sent the following request. If you can help David, contact him directly via his email listed below.
I am a new member and I need some help putting a G5RV up in the top of a couple of trees ( about 50 footers) at my house in oldtown Norman.
I should have the rope and pulleys in by this weekend.
IF someone has the equipment and skills, I will gladly compensate.
David H Hickman KB0FHF – firstname.lastname@example.org
Weekly “Memories” Nag?
Keep your Memory channels on your mobile or HT sorted so you’ll have easy access to frequencies needed for Skywarn or ARES activation. That list is at the bottom of the SCARS Repeater blog maintained by our trusty Trustee, N5UWY – SCARS Repeater Blog (that underlined part is a hyperlink straight to the repeater blog). Scroll down to the Red Box at the bottom of the blog to find the recommended memory entries for you VHF/UHF equipment.
Did I Forget You Last Week?
There’s an easy way to make sure that you receive each and every blog post. Yes, even on those days when I forget to send an email out to the Club list! But remember that I ONLY send out an email notification for the Weekly Newsletters. The other non-Weekly posts are very rarely notified about via email.
From anywhere on the Blog, scroll down until you see “Follow Blog via Email” in the right side-bar. Sign-up there, and you will always receive an email notice each and every time I post something here. Big Solar Flare? Bingo – you’re on it.
The Doctor Is In
Many of us have enjoyed Joel Hallas’ (W1ZR) columns in QST titled “The Doctor Is In” for years.
Now selected stuff from The Doctor is available via podcast from the ARRL.
The July 14 Podcast is titled “HF Propagation”
The Doctor’s Home page is here: The Doctor Is In .
However, I recommend that you navigate “to” the Doctor’s homepage link and then use the Blubrry link to get to the podcasts. They seem to be more current than even the ARRL archives.
