Dates To Remember

Some VERY important events are scheduled in the near future which you need to put into your planner:

Nov 12 – Next SCARS Meeting/Election of Officers
Dec 6 – SCARS Christmas Party, Golden Corral, 6pm

Hey! SCARS Has A Webpage – Part 9

N5HZR continues his series about how the SCARS home page has morphed over the past year and how you can use it.

Contact Us / Officers

This week we talk about a web page on the web site that isn’t the most popular, but it can be used to solve a number of problems. The Contact Us page is located at and describes all of the different ways that you can communicate with the club. We’re a group that lives to communicate, however, sometimes it appears that’s the last thing that gets done. Listed here are all of communication paths you may use. We’ve tried to cover all of the bases, with repeaters, Facebook, Twitter, snail mail, and email. As more modes of communication come available, this will be the place to look.

Also on this page is a link to the Officers page, located at Here, the current officers are listed, with contact information provided by, and email addresses for the group. If you have some direct needs that you can’t get answered in other areas, this group is a good one to get you the information you need.

So, next time you need to contact the club, take a look here, on the Contact Page,

 Collector & Emitter

Here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long, monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.

When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…

 Weekly “Memories” Nag?

Keep your Memory channels on your mobile or HT sorted so you’ll have easy access to frequencies needed for Skywarn or ARES activation. That list is at the bottom of the SCARS Repeater blog maintained by our trusty Trustee, N5UWY – SCARS Repeater Blog (that underlined part is a hyperlink straight to the repeater blog). Scroll down to the Red Box at the bottom of the blog to find the recommended memory entries for you VHF/UHF equipment.

Did I Forget You Last Week?

There’s an easy way to make sure that you receive each and every blog post. Yes, even on those days when I forget to send an email out to the Club list! But remember that I ONLY send out an email notification for the Weekly Newsletters. The other non-Weekly posts are very rarely notified about via email.

From anywhere on the Blog, scroll down until you see “Follow Blog via Email” in the right side-bar. Sign-up there, and you will always receive an email notice each and every time I post something here. Big Solar Flare? Bingo – you’re on it.

The Doctor Is In

Many of us have enjoyed Joel Hallas’ (W1ZR) columns in QST titled
“The Doctor Is In” for years.

Now selected stuff from The Doctor is available via podcast from the ARRL.
The Latest Podcast is titled “Mobile HF Antennas“.

We’re on the downhill slide to the solar minimum, but that doesn’t mean the end of Amateur Radio enjoyment. Even at the very bottom of the cycle there is still plenty to do, and plenty of ways to do it!
