Delayed, Late, Ouch

I missed the Friday deadline, but I do think I had an okay excuse. Thursday afternoon I got my feet tangled-up in an extension cord and went over backwards busting my head pretty good on concrete. 6 staples, 2 CT scans, an MRI, and my very first ambulance ride (from the Norman Healthplex to OU Medical Center). Functioning at a reduced level today, but certainly better than Saturday.

Believe me, I’ll try NOT to do that again! Now, on to this week’s Update.

Mid-Del Extra “Class”
SCARS Tech/General “Class”

MANY of you have been asking since our very successful Tech/General class last Spring “when are you going to do an Extra Class?”

Well, “we” aren’t. We are going to do another Tech/General class, but the Mid-Del Club will be doing an Extra “Class” starting really soon. Here are the particulars:

Mid-Del ARC Extra Class
Monday nights from 6:30-8:30
8201 E Reno Ave (Training room)
Midwest City
Starts: February 13th
Ends: April 3rd
Testing Session: April 10th
Contact: Donald Ohse (W5DRO) w5dro@w5mwc.org
(be certain to contact Donald before. Don’t just show up!)

That said, here are the particulars of the SCARS Tech/General signup:

The next SCARS Technician / General class will be held on Tuesday nights, starting February 7, 2017.
The last class will be held April 4th, 2017, and a Volunteer Exam session will be held April 6th, 2017.
All of these classes will be held at the Norman Firehouse #7 Training Center at 2207 Goddard Ave, Norman, OK 73019.
All classes and exam sessions will begin at 6:30 pm. Classes will run each evening until 9:00 pm.

If you are interested in either of these classes, you can sign-up here: http://w5nor.org/class/reg/index.html

Oh, and ask me this question next time you see me:

“Why should I be a member of the American Radio Relay League?”

I’d be delighted to talk with you about it. You should browse around to see what “The League” does for YOUR hobby.

 Collector & Emitter

Here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long, monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.

When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…

The Doctor Is In

Many of us have enjoyed Joel Hallas’ (W1ZR) columns in QST titled
“The Doctor Is In” for years.

Now selected stuff from The Doctor is available via podcast from the ARRL.
The Latest Podcast is titled
Long Delayed Echos
“.
[This is a really cool topic!!!]

We’re on the downhill slide to the solar minimum, but that doesn’t mean the end of Amateur Radio enjoyment. Even at the very bottom of the cycle there is still plenty to do, and plenty of ways to do it!
