“I Heard Ham Radio People Meet Here”

Last Saturady at the Saturday-Edition of the SCARS Koffee Klatch, Peter, AG5DB, was demonstrating to AG5DV, and others at coffee, his latest iteration of WSPRlite. Peter had assembled his portable setup (FT817, MFJ 20m telescoping whip (4′), ~13′ of counterpoise wire) and set it configured it for 1W WSPR on 20m (Android phone app, TX only).  After 2 TX cycles, the signal from McDonald’s had already been picked up from both coasts.  It was either Ed or Mark that mentioned something along the lines of ‘oh good, Work All McD’s”. That is funny in and of itself. But…

Serendipitously, a lady walked in with a KX3 and a bunch of paper work, and Peter’s setup on the table was a dead give-away that she’d found the Ham group that meets there every Saturday (she was looking for our group). Much discussion followed, but very likely as you are reading this, she is one of Norman’s newest Amateur Radio Operators!

Ham Radio 2.0: Episode 83 – Comparison of Digital Modes for Amateur Radio

Published on Feb 28, 2017

This comparison of DMR, DSTAR and YSF was given by Jim Keeley, W1JJK, at the 2017 Orlando Hamcation.
Jim speaks about how the modes differ, how they work, and what features each one has.
This is an information-sharing forum, and not meant to sway anyone to or from any particular mode.

 Collector & Emitter

Here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long, monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.

When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…
