SCARS March Meeting – Aftermath

It was a BIG day last Saturday when AT LEAST 68 people showed up for the March SCARS meeting. This is a GREAT problem to have! Lots of eye-ball QSOs occurred pre-meeting, several new faces and some ones who hadn’t been to a meeting in awhile. We’re deep into the planning for our 40th Anniversary events, we have a picnic next month the afternoon of the April meeting, HamHoliday is looking to be a big deal this year, and our Ham Class is getting more people at every meeting (and let me say that is really cool!).

WG5T talked about PSK31, some of the applications used to do it, and truly how easy it is to do if you have even a little bit of computer experience, and WB5ULK talked about the benefits of being an ARRL Member.

A GREAT DAY – you should’ve been there!!!

St Paddies Day Special Event

“We hope to turn the bands green,” the event’s sponsors said. The St Patrick Award activity will get under way at 1200 UTC on March 16 and continue until 1200 UTC on March 18. Radio amateurs or SWLs are invited to take part.

Build Your Own Antenna Analyzer

This came via my Daily Instructables email (you should subscribe).
Do you want a good quality Antenna Analyzer, but don’t want to shell-out the big bucks to buy one?
Okay, BUILD IT using an Arduino as the foundation.

Worldwide YL DMR Talkgroup

When Gary asked me to write about the WWYL Talk Group 955, the first thing that came to my head was, an old Connie Francis song that as a kid, I used to change the words.  From “where the boys are”, to “where the girls are”!!

I am just now setting up my DMR radio. So expert, I am not (yet).  However, a very nice YL, Dvora, (4X4NW) from Israel, is helping me.

So what is Talk Group 955:  just a bunch of YL’s, or it will be as soon as we can get the word out!  We do not have any specific nets set up yet.  As soon as we get this organized, we will and I will let everyone know!

How do you get to the talk group?  All the info is published in http://w5nor.org/okdmr/. In order to add the talk group details (transceiver dependable), you should refer to the codeplug page http://w5nor/codeplugs/index.html). Just remember, Worldwide Young Ladies talk group, WWYL is TG 955. The Code Color (CC) is 1, and the Time Slot (TS) should be set to 2.

You can listen to the recorded archives here: http://hose.brandmeister.network/955/

BTW there is a talk group set up for JOTA #907!

 Collector & Emitter

Here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long, monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.

When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…
