SCARS Monthly Meeting – TOMORROW

For those of you who pulled a Rip Van Winkle, you did NOT miss the June meeting last week. As per usual, the June meeting was moved to the 3rd Saturday to allow a few of the hardier (and less sane) members of SCARS to attend Ham-Com in Irving. The Place and Time is the same as usual, Fire Station 7 at 9AM, but if you need a map, you can find it here: http://w5nor.org/meetings/index.html

See you there! And remember: Bring Your Own Chair (BYOC)!

Field Day – NEXT WEEKEND

Yup – it’s next weekend. I still need GOTA Mentors! The more the merrier!

EVERYTHING you’d EVER need to KNOW about FIELD DAY can be found right HERE:  http://w5nor.org/fd/index.html

Ham-Com Afterthoughts

In retrospect, I thought that Ham-Com was pretty good this year. The flea market was well-stocked (but I WILL say that I thought that the Flea Market at Green Country was bigger. YMMV), had some good stuff available, and of course the Major Manufacturers were all present with their latest toys. If anyone wanted a radio,  new or old, you could have gotten some really good deals. Regarding attendance, I’m assuming that they started their ticket numbering at 1000 (I did not see any younger than that as I moved about and looked at the hourly prize board), and the highest number I saw on the board or a badge was in the mid 6 thousands, so my guess is that there were 5000 to 6000 registered total. There were about a hundred pre-registration tags still at the pickup-desk when I left at 3pm.

Bottom line: I’ll go again next year.

5 to 6 thousand attendance for Ham-Com is nice and big, but nowhere near Dayton’s attendance this year. ARRL released a story yesterday about that: 29,296 were there at the new venue in Xenia. That’s the 2nd largest attendance ever for HAMVENTION. Read the story about Dayton for yourself here:

National Weather Museum Membership Drive

Support the National Weather Museum!
Individual Memberships are $25 and Family Memberships are $50.
Support a local museum!
If a membership isn’t your style – help by volunteering!
Current needs are volunteers to man the front desk
(no experience or specific weather knowledge necessary as there are augmented reality stations that provide content),
Need volunteers to help establish an Amateur Radio Station and then to operate it at the Museum.
The Museum call sign is WX5NWM.

 Collector & Emitter

Here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long, monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.

When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…
