Ham Holiday Starts One Week From Today

Central Oklahoma’s Hamfest begins one week from today. For those many of you who are new to the Hobby, a hamfest is basically a Flea Market, but with extra added attractions.

My favorite reasons to go to a hamfest is to
a) meet the people I’ve spoken with on the radio but have never met in-person,
b) talk to people who I haven’t spoken with for several years,
and
c) learn stuff.

The latter may range from Organizational stuff from local or national Amateur Radio movers and shakers, but it may be minutiae regarding a digital mode, new equipment, new software, … “new stuff”.

Here’s a list of meetings and seminars:

ARRL Forum – Kevin O’Dell N0IRW, ARRL Oklahoma Section Manager
Using Your Antenna Analyzer – Joel Hallas W1ZR ARRL HQ, via Skype
Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) Forum – Mark Conklin N7XYO
Oklahoma OEM: Auxcom – Gayland Kitch WX5MOR
Youth Forum – Leah Ohse W3LEO
Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network AREDN.org – Duane Angles AA5KD
Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) – Mark Matalik AE5DN
Young Ladies Radio League (YLRL) – Michelle Carey W5MQC
Oklahoma DX Association (OKDXA) – Kim Elmore N5OP
Fusion Digital – David Downing WD5G
Intro to JT65-HF – Jeff Scoville AD5ME
HT Spurious Emissions – Don Ohse W5DRO
Program your DMR/Fusion/D-Star HT’s
 – OKC Digital Wizards

DIY – 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, etc.– Mark Kleine N5HZR
Oklahoma Repeater Society Inc (ORSI) Meeting

 Collector & Emitter

Here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long, monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.

When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…

 Weekly “Memories” Nag?

Keep your Memory channels on your mobile or HT sorted so you’ll have easy access to frequencies needed for Skywarn or ARES activation. That list is at the bottom of the SCARS Repeater blog maintained by our trusty Trustee, N5UWY – SCARS Repeater Blog (that underlined part is a hyperlink straight to the repeater blog). Scroll down to the Red Box at the bottom of the blog to find the recommended memory entries for you VHF/UHF equipment.
