Amateur Support for OHP Officer’s Funeral

From Moore EM, WX5MOR, and Norman EM, KD5ZLG:

We have been asked if it would be possible to provide volunteers to assist with parking for the funeral of OHP Lt. Heath Meyers.  This will be this coming Monday, July 31st during the morning.  I do not have any further specifics at this time, but if you would please email me with your availability we will pass information along as we get it.

Note that this is for traffic control and parking assistance at Lloyd Noble Center.

If you wish to volunteer for this, please email me at the Club email address, w5nor@w5nor.org. Include your best contact phone number, and I’ll get your phone number and email to President Rodney.

Siren Test Net Pre-Kickoff Test

Peter, N5UWY, posted this earlier on the SCARS Facebook page. While we ARE planning on kicking off an Adopt-A-Siren program with a Saturday Net for checking on each siren, we REALLY need some help on some specific sirens TOMORROW AT NOON!

See Peter’s post below:

Plans are afoot for a Saturday noon siren test net. As a precursor to that, David Grizzle, KD5ZLG, Norman’s Emergency Management Coordinator needs some sirens checked TOMORROW, July 29 at noon.

For this week, we only need these sirens covered. After that, we’ll start the Local Hams Adopt-a-Siren program and start running a roll-call net every Saturday after the sirens wind down. More details on the on-going siren net later.

Saturday’s SPECIAL NOON Siren Test Net will be on the SCARS UHF Repeater, 443.7, Tone 141.3

Here is the list of sirens which specifically need to be checked TOMORROW:

Harold and Denny Go To Paris

You may fill this space with your own movie-related jokes, sarcasm, etc., but Denny is replacing his equipment which THOR had his way with a few weeks ago. MTC is the middle-man in this little reality play.

All that said, look for WA6DKD to be back on-the-air with appropriate force Real Soon Now. ‘Twill be good to hear him on all bands, all modes, and all frequencies again!

Ham Holiday Aftermath

Aftermath
synonyms: repercussions, aftereffects, consequences, effects, results, fruits; wake
<break>
I do not know what the final numbers for Ham Holiday are, but I can tell you by observation that numbers were up, people were happier with the venue, and vendors were VERY happy with how little product they were taking home with them.

All in all, it was an extremely good event this year. And if you did not attend the Banquet Friday night, you missed Don Wilbanks’ talk about how some clubs are getting youth involved in Amateur Radio. Well worth the time and money, it was!

 Collector & Emitter

Here is the direct link to the historical issues of CORA’s almost 30 year long, monthly publication, The Collector & Emitter. Lot’s of great stories, True and Fiction, MANY club meeting notes, Happenings in Oklahoma Amateur Radio, and for me at least, a ton of memories about the Amateur Radio Dealers which we had in the OKC area. Lots and lots of fun reading.

When you start reading these, the clock will just melt away…
