May Meeting tomorrow by WG5T is “homebrew guitar/antennas and ‘FrankenAmplifiers'”. Work was re-done on the VHF repeater. This week’s “Link of the Week” is a cornucopia of Amateur Radio, all rounded out by The Doctor’s new topic, DX News, Amateur Radio Newsline, and Ham Nation with no “Pine Board” (I think).
May Club Meeting Tomorrow
The theme for this month’s Club Meeting:
“Cigar Box Guitars, Antennas, Amplifiers from Another Mother, and Field Day”.
Another homebrewing success will be shared by our own Bill Baker WG5T. Bill has been working on cigar box guitars and amplifiers that you’ll have to see to believe. He’s even built a guitar that serves as an antenna. We’ll also run through the plans for Field Day 2018 with SCARS FD Manager Chris Pape KE5JZN. Figure out where you can help to make this the best Field Day, ever!
Also, we’ll perform more ‘stay after school’ seminars on using your new handheld radio, DMR radios or any other amateur radio. If you’re new to the hobby or would like some help with a new radio, simply stay after the meeting, and Ed Hatch AG5DV and others will help you through the first setup, and guide you through those first transmissions! If you’ve got a DMR question, Mark Kleine N5HZR will help you with any setup, or operational issues. Have any other questions? Just ask someone at the meetings, they’re experts on everything in our group, and we’ll help you find the right person.
SCARS meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month (third in June) at 9:00 am at the Norman Firehouse #7, just west of Rock Creek, and Flood. All of the location and time details are available on the Meetings/Nets page of this website. Don’t forget to bring a chair, if you can, as space is getting limited!
VHF Repeater Work
And the NEXT change was to change BACK to the original duplexer complete with the APRS node. The controller is on its way to have a new OS and some upgrades installed, so 06 is running on the Kenwood controller, and is very “plain”. But it works.
The substitute duplexer, that made the repeater weak and a little deaf, was not tuned correctly. It has been re-peaked and when given the opportunity, the Sinclair duplexer will be swapped back in to see if our interference is gone or not.
Link of the Week
Dan Romanchik, KB6NU, publishes the “No Nonesense” study guides, and also has a lot of really good content. His latest post (as of me writing this) is a less-than tongue in cheek post regarding just what it is “Killing Ham Radio” – this week at least.
There are TONS of really good stuff on Dan’s site. You should go check it out!
