November Meeting – Building Battery Packs — Menu
Saturday will be the November SCARS meeting. This month Thomas Hays KI5AIF and Mark Kleine N5HZR will talk about building battery packs out of the Lithium-Ion 18650 3.7 volts cells. These pack a lot of power into some pretty small packages and work great for go-boxes and emergency power situations.
They will talk about and demonstrate, the cells, the math, and the construction methods used to build, charge and discharge these battery packs. Thanks to Peter Khor AG5DB and Chad Vetsch N5CAV for sharing their supplies and build examples.
SCARS meetings happen on the second Saturday of the month at 9:00 am at the Norman Firehouse #7, 2207 Goddard Ave, just west of the intersection of W. Rock Creek Rd. and N. Flood Ave. All of the location and time details are available on the Meetings/Nets page of the SCARS website.
See you there!
Enid Hamfest Recap — Menu
Last Saturday was the Enid Hamfest and the hot dogs didn’t disappoint. Each year this hamfest signals the last one of the year for our area. The Enid convention center was filled with vendors selling everything from pieces and parts to brand new radios. There were some deals on vintage Heathkit radios and some Ameritron amplifiers. ARRL / ARES forums let the attendees know what’s coming. Put this one on your calendar for next year if you’re looking for some great flea market deals.
