CW World Wide DX Contest is This Weekend — Menu
The CQ World Wide is the largest Amateur Radio competition in the world. Over 35,000 participants take to the airwaves on the last weekend of October (SSB) and November (CW) with the goal of making as many contacts with as many different DXCC entities and CQ Zones as possible. If you’re just learning Morse Code, this is a great time to turn on the radio and listen to stations from all around the globe. If you’re capable of making CW contacts, this is a great time to pick up some DX stations.
This contest runs from 11/23 0000Z to 11/24 0000Z and more information is available on the CQ WW web page https://www.cqww.com/
Christmas Party is Coming — Menu
The annual Christmas Party started in 1978 and brings about 50 hams together with for a great meal, and a ‘White Elephant’ Christmas gift exchange. Dinner runs about $15, depending on your choice of drink. This year SCARS will be picking up the tip, so you won’t have any additional costs.
Each gift should be a maximum of $10, and “No Free Harbor Freight items are allowed”. Bring your wrapped gift labeled as from/for either a “ham” or “non-ham.” This year this will be December 3rd, 2019, at 6:00 pm, at the Golden Corral, 123 N Interstate Dr., Norman, OK. More information is available at club events, or on the SCARS Facebook Group. See you there!
John Stratton N5AUS Wins Division Director — Menu
On Friday, November 15th, 2019 the ARRL announced that John Stratton N5AUS was elected as our West Gulf Division Director. John has been active in ARRL leadership and has held the post since January. His next term will start on January 1, 2020, and run for three years. John has been very active with SCARS and the Oklahoma hams. He’s been very responsive and can be reached by email at email@example.com.
Vice Director Lee Cooper W5LHC ran unopposed for his position and will continue in that role for the next three years.
Congratulations to both these gentlemen and we’re looking forward to a great three years.
Technician / General Class is Coming — Menu
Each year SCARS offers a Technician / General class during February and March. This year the class will start on March 4th, 2020. If you have any friends that might want to get their license, this would be the class for them. If you want to upgrade from Technician to General, this is the class for you. As always, the class is free, the test is free, the only cost is $22.50 for an ARRL license manual. The books will be available through the class. If you, or your friends, already have an ARRL (or other) manual, they should be ready to roll.
The classes will be offered at the Norman Fire Station #7, on Tuesday nights from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. We will not meet on March 17th, due to OU’s Spring Break. More information is available on the SCARS class page at https://w5nor.org/class.
Spread the news, and let’s fill the room!
