SCARS is on Ham Nation — Menu
An email from Bob Heil K9EID always gets my attention, however, this one was really special. That message is as follows:
"Just read where the club will be awarded THE club of the year at HamVention. I would be honored to have you join us on a Ham Nation broadcast to let the world know how you keep all of this going. Just a great club and marvelous activities. My kind of club!!"
A couple of Skype calls later and we were “On The Air”. The entire show is linked below, as always, at the bottom of this message, but in the setup calls, he commended the club on all of the activities that we had up and running. If you’ve not heard Bob talk before, his passion is to help people get their license, and then get on-the-air. He had even committed to join us at last Saturday’s SCARS meeting to send his best wishes to the group. Either way, he sends his bests to the entire group and we’ll work to get him connected at a future meeting. It was lots of fun and it was so neat to get the additional exposure for the club.
Cancellations — Menu
What a difference a week makes. SCARS canceled the March 14th meeting and the list of amateur radio related closings is getting long.
The City of Norman has also restricted the activity in their facilities which means that until further notice we will not be able to continue our technician / general class, Elmer Nights, or the monthly license test sessions. The City of Norman is under of State of Emergency that limits activities until April 3rd. At that time this process may be extended.
The current list of canceled amateur radio activities includes:
- SCARS March meeting was canceled.
- SCARS Technician / General class is canceled.
- SCARS Elmer Night is canceled.
- SCARS Monthly License Tests have been canceled.
- Aeronautical club canceled their March meeting, and probably the April meeting.
- The 4 States QRP group has canceled their Ozarkcon convention for April 3rd event.
- DARA has canceled the Dayton Hamvention in Ohio for May 15th – 17th.
- The Green Country Hamfest (NE Oklahoma) for April 10th – 11th has been canceled.
Our good friends at the ARRL even created a web page for people to list events that are canceled. All of the local leaders are watching the suggested guidelines and are acting appropriately. Make sure that you keep your head on a swivel and watch for the changes as they come flying at you.
Memorial Marathon Postponed — Menu
This week the OKC Memorial Marathon was postponed from April 26th to October 4th. If you were one of the 100+ hams that signed up to help work the event, please put October 4th on your calendar and get ready to manage this race in the fall. The weather should be nice, and all of you will still be needed to manage that course this fall.
